LOCATION
The Grasslands Cafe & Bakery is located in Sonoita, AZ, a high (5000') valley surrounded by the Santa Rita, Huachucha, Mustang, Empire and Whetstone Mountains, with large portions of the land administered by the Bureau of Land Management and the National ForestService. Recently a large section of the valley watershed was protected from further development by the formation of the La Ciénaga National Conservation Area, administered by the BLM. The Audubon Society maintains the Appleton-Whittel Research Ranch nearby in Elgin and the Arizona Nature Conservancy has 2 nearby preserves, the Patagonia - Sonoita Creek Preserve in Patagonia and the Canelo Hills Ciénaga Preserve in Canelo. The Ramsey Canyon Preserve is just a little farther away. Here the skies are dark and generally clear. The land is open and covered by native grasses. Pronghorn antelope can be seen here and other wildlife abounds. People tend to pass though Sonoita on their way to other places, Parker Lake, Lake Patagonia, Kartchcner Caverns or the San Rafael Valley. Numerous Bed and Breakfast Inns and Guest Ranches are in the area. The Grasslands Cafe & Bakery is an excellent place to stop for lunch when on your outing.
To find us, continue south on Hwy. 83 from the intersection of Hwys. 82 & 83, going toward Parker Lake. Just after the road turns east, you will find us on the North side of the Highway.
Visit us in person when in Sonoita and take advantage of our mail order facilities when away.
